Revenue per 1,000 total views

Understanding the result and its limits

YouTube RPM divides reported creator revenue after revenue sharing by views and multiplies by 1,000. Use matching revenue, dates and formats. Long-form RPM uses video views; Shorts RPM uses engaged views. External merchandise, services and ordinary sponsorship income are not part of platform RPM. This calculator uses the inputs you supply and does not estimate another channel’s private earnings.

How RPM Calculator works

  1. 1

    Choose the same reporting period

Use revenue and views from matching dates and content formats.

  2. 2

    Enter reported revenue

Use revenue reported in YouTube Analytics, after revenue sharing; do not add external business income.

  3. 3

    Enter matching views

Use video views for long-form content or engaged views for Shorts.

  4. 4

    Review the result

Compare your own like-for-like periods instead of treating an unsourced niche average as a target.

Definitions: YouTube revenue metrics documentation. Use the same reporting period and the correct impression or view denominator.

Who uses RPM Calculator

Frequently asked questions

Does sponsorship income increase YouTube RPM?
Ordinary external sponsorships, merchandise and services are not included. Use the revenue actually reported in YouTube Analytics; supported YouTube Creator Partnerships reporting may differ.
Is RPM the same as CPM?
No. RPM measures reported creator revenue after revenue sharing per 1,000 views. CPM measures advertiser cost before revenue sharing per 1,000 ad impressions.
What is a good RPM?
No universal benchmark fits every audience, format and revenue mix. Compare your own consistent periods and inspect changes in views and revenue sources.
Why is RPM often lower than CPM?
The denominators and revenue-sharing treatment differ. Not every video view has an ad, and CPM is before revenue sharing. Do not infer an exact monetized-view percentage by dividing RPM by CPM.
