YouTube Trend Discovery: Review Recent Topic Signals
Use sampled video performance to shortlist topics worth investigating.
What is Trend Discovery and when should you use it?
Use sampled video performance to shortlist topics worth investigating.
What is Trend Discovery?
Trend Discovery groups recent public YouTube videos into topics and ranks their observed performance.
The current detector searches videos from the last seven days and combines view velocity, engagement and recency. These sampled signals support topic research; they are not measured keyword search demand, seasonal forecasts or a guarantee of publishing weeks ahead of a trend.

What Trend Discovery includes
Category-Based Discovery
Select a supported content category to focus the recent-video searches used for topic discovery.
Observed View Velocity
Review views per day since publication for sampled videos. This is an observed average, not a prediction of future views.
Public Engagement Signals
Compare public likes and comments relative to views alongside recency. The feature cannot see competitor retention or private revenue.
Topic Grouping
Related words in sampled video titles help group videos into topics. Inspect the sample videos before treating a label as an audience need.
Stored Score Changes
Where previous snapshots exist, compare the current topic score with the earlier stored score. A new topic may have no historical comparison.
Source Video Review
Use the sampled videos to assess relevance, format and whether you can add something useful. Coverage is limited by the searches and API quota.
How Trend Discovery works
- 1
Connect your channel and choose a category
Connect YouTube and select a supported category in the trends dashboard.
- 2
Load recent discovery results
When stored results need refreshing, the service searches recent videos, subject to account limits and available API quota. Fresh stored results are reused.
- 3
Compare observed signals
Review topic scores, video velocity, engagement and status. Counts in the sampled results are not YouTube-wide keyword search volume.
- 4
Inspect the underlying videos
Open the source videos and check whether their topic and audience fit your own channel before choosing an idea.
- 5
Plan one relevant upload
Use the shortlist in your editorial planning, then review your own upload's results. A trend score does not guarantee reach or timing.
Take the next step with Trend Discovery
Move from definition to comparison, implementation, and pricing so you can choose the right workflow for your channel.

Frequently asked questions
- What is YouTube Trend Discovery?
- It is a topic-research feature that groups sampled recent public videos and ranks their observed velocity, engagement and recency. It helps identify topics to investigate, not guaranteed future winners.
- Does TubeAnalytics predict when a topic will peak?
- No guaranteed peak date or two-to-three-week head start is supported by the current detector. Review the observed signals and source videos rather than treating a score as a forecast.
- How does the trend score work?
- The current video score combines normalized views per day (50%), engagement rate (30%) and recency (20%). Topic scores aggregate sampled video scores. This is a heuristic, not a measurement of total keyword demand.
- Who is Trend Discovery for?
- Creators researching their next topics can use it to narrow a shortlist. It requires a connected channel, is available from Starter, and remains subject to plan limits, data availability and API quota.
