The YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is YouTube's monetization program. In eligible countries, creators can enter the expanded fan-funding tier at 500 subscribers, three public uploads in 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified watch hours in 12 months or 3 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. Until February 1, 2027, ads and YouTube Premium require 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified watch hours or 10 million qualified Shorts views.
The YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is YouTube's monetization program. It covers several features with different eligibility thresholds, so joining the expanded program and qualifying for ad revenue are not the same milestone.
In countries where expanded YPP is available, the earlier tier requires 500 subscribers, three valid public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the past 12 months or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days. This tier can unlock fan-funding and Shopping features, subject to each feature's own requirements.
Until February 1, 2027, watch-page ads, Shorts Feed ads, and YouTube Premium revenue require 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the past 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days. YouTube has announced that the watch-hour and Shorts-view thresholds for new applicants will change on February 1, 2027, so creators applying near that date should verify the Earn page in YouTube Studio and YouTube Help before planning around a fixed number.
Meeting a threshold does not guarantee acceptance. The channel must be in an available country or region, follow YouTube's channel monetization policies, complete the required account steps, and pass review. Apply from the Earn area in YouTube Studio, where YouTube shows the requirements and progress that apply to the channel.
After acceptance, enable only the monetization modules and features for which the channel is eligible. Revenue depends on monetized viewing, audience, format, advertiser demand, and the enabled products; YPP membership alone does not guarantee a particular RPM or monthly income.

A cooking channel grew from 0 to 1,200 subscribers and 4,500 watch hours in 10 months by uploading two videos per week, each 10–15 minutes long. The consistent schedule built an audience, and the longer format accumulated watch time quickly. They applied for YPP and were approved within two weeks.
A comedy creator focused entirely on YouTube Shorts, posting daily 30–60 second skits. They reached 10 million Shorts views in two months while accumulating 2,000 subscribers. Using the Shorts-specific YPP path, they were approved and began earning from Shorts ad revenue sharing.
